Battle in the night Empty Battle in the night

Battle in the night.

It was three days ago that the sorcerer Krule Dirgespawn had joined up with the chaos lord Raimar Darksouls warhost bringing news of powerful magical obelisks on the border of the empire. Always eager for battle, and getting vengance for the recent defeat of Archaon, Lord Darksoul set out to capture the obelisks. The goal was to drain the obelisks of their power, and use it to infuse the newly built shrine dedicated to the Khorne at his base in the north. This would surely appease the gods, and possibly draw the attention of enough chaos warriors to drown the now weakened Empire in a sea of blood.

So far the army had met little resistance, a few skirmishes here and there, and most of the warriors were getting impatient, their lust for battle insatiable. With the guidance of Krule they found the site of the obelisks late in the afternoon.

One of the obelisks was clearly of orc making, recently built inside a small, albeit empty, orc camp. The camp had the looks of recent use, cooking pots and various creatures appendages littered the camp. Obviously the orcs had captured humans not too long ago, that much was clear by looking at the pile of bones scattered around in the camp. For Lord Darksoul this was a good sign, for this meant that the orcs were not far away. The orcs would be a sweet distraction for his warriors, and they would be decent sacrefices to the Blood God.

The other obelisk was some sort of sphinx statue, and it seemed to hold some sort of spirit bound within. Determined to take its power for the shrine, Lord Darksoul ordered the sphinx spirit to be left alone for now.

After a few hours, the chaos knighs came back into the camp after a scouting trip in the vicinity of the army. Hanota Darkglaive, the leader of the knights, reported that there were no signs of the orcs, but they had stumbled upon a small farm in the west. The farmer and his family had been sacreficed to the Blood God, and the farm itself put to the torch.

At midnight the alarm was raised. An Orc force had been spotted heading directly towards the encampment, eager to fight. Lord Darksoul ordered his warriors up and to form battle groups. The sturdy chaos warriors and chosens taking the center, and marauders at the flanks. To the far western flank the Chaos Knights mustered up, determined to bring more sacrefices to the gods.

The orc forces mustered outside the encampment. The orc warboss leading a small group of black orcs, eager to slaughter the humans occupying their camp. As the armies drew closer, a small group of marauder horsemen could no longer sate their bloodlust. They started a wild charge towards the orc ranks. The warboss, eager to fight, met their headlong rush with a charge of his own. His personal advisor, a small goblin shaman, had no other choice than to hang on to his cloak to be able to keep up the pace. The orcs crashed into the marauders and the goblin was flung forward beneath the hooves of the galloping warhorses and trampled. The marauders were however no match for the orcs. The leader was butchered by the warboss, and the rest of the small group was hacked to pieces by the black orcs.

While the orcs were busy with the marauders, a small unit of night goblins had approached from the back. With insane glee, seeing the horsemen being slaughtered, fanatics emerged from the ranks, spinning wildly with their oversized flails trying to take part in the action. None of them reached the chaos warriors battle lines however, and with the horsemen out of the way, a group of blood frenzied chaos warriors saw their chance to charge the warboss and his bodyguards.

In the meanwhile the chaos knights started their charge across the battlefield. An orc shaman managed to conjure up a huge foot that stomped the unit from the skies. Several knights died to the spell, but with cold hearted determination they continued their stampede across the battlefield, sending a unit of orc arrer boyz on a desperate run for their lives.

Lord Darksoul ventured close to the sphinx to gain a flanking position to the orcs that were engaged with his chaos warriors, mounted upon his juggernaught. Before he could get himself into position however, a troll emerged charging from the back of the orc army. Grinning to himself, he issued a battle cry and met the charge head on, slashing and hacking at the troll. The troll tried to vomit on him, but failed to cause any serious injury. The troll, despite regenerating wounds that would otherwise have killed less robust creatures, turned tail and ran, with a blood crazed Lord Darksoul charging after it.

At this point Krule finished his spell, a gift of change granted from Tzeentch, and one of the chaos warriors suddenly shifted and altered form, stepping up to the front ranks, a baleful challenge directed at the orc warboss. The boss answered the challenge, and the two warriors crashed in a mighty clash. The warboss was a bit dumbfounded of the sudden change of the chaos warriors fighting skills, and didn't get any decent hits on the newly made hero. While the warboss and the hero fought out their duel, the chaos warriors made bloody work of the remaining black orcs.

The warboss, seeing his retinue butchered and himself loosing the duel, lost his nerve, and started a hasty retreat. The night goblins behind the warboss decided it was a good idea to keep the boss between them and the enemy, so they took it upon themselves to turn tail and run for it as well. The fanatics however, too occupied with their crazed spinning to concern themselves with anything else, suddenly had a good turn, and crashed straight into the now charging chaos warriors. Several warriors died, but the chaos warriors was too caught up in their bloodshed to take heed of the casualties. Charging madly across the battlefield, they ran through the fanatic once more to get into combat with the now rallied warboss. From the flank Lord Darksoul came charging, his juggernaught trampling the troll as it tried to get away, and Darksoul himself roaring a challenge at the orc warboss. The warboss, again being surrounded by his own troops, felt confident once again, and took the challenge head on. A fools choice, though, as the Chaos Lord came charging in, chaos warriors at his side. The warboss fell to the ground before he had time to lift his heavy weapon, decapitated by Lord Darksoul.

As soon as the orcs saw their generals body fall to the ground, their will to fight disappeared. What was left of the army turned tail and ran, leaving only a shaman waving and shouting curses on them deserted on the top of a hill, and the group of night goblins, staring dumbly at the approaching chaos warriors.

A shout was heard in the back of the chaos warhost. Krule had launched another spell, turning the crew and boars of an oncoming chariot into dimwitted beasts, thus making it harmless. The spell had drained too much power from him however, and his mind had taken the brunt of the overchannel. Sapped of both memory and power, he could no longer cast any spells, let alone remember what and who he was.

The battle was over. But even after a crushing defeat of the orcs, the chaos warhost had failed it's goal, the sorcerer needed to complete the ritual had lost his powers, and without them, the obelisks could not be drained. Furious at his failure, Lord Darksoul made a sacrifice of the former sorcerer, and after destroying the obelisks, the chaos warhost started on its long march back to the north, looking for other sources of power.

Battle in the night Empty Prushnak's Story

Poste  Da Git 9/1/2011, 03:09

The battle had started badly. Boss Prushnak had seen the armored warriors before, and knew that Warboss Talûn-Kar's forces didn't outnumber them enough. In the start of the battle the bloody Arrer Boyz had turned tail and ran. The bloody goblins had forgot to fire the bloody rock lobber. And when they finally did, all they managed to hit was the held back reserve of the opposing force. Gashgar Boneshredder, the Shaman, had done a good job with the armored knights, but there were still more left. And then the warboss himself had charged forward, far ahead of the goblin screening troops. And then both the mushroomed fanatics and the troll followed.

Despite hindering Prushnak's own advance, the fanatics did a nice job of blocking the enemy. The Troll attacked the enemy general, but was defeated and run into the ground. When the warboss' force soon broke out of combat, the pursuing troops found themselves entangled in a psychotic goblin with a huge iron ball on a chain. But despite heavy losses they came through. Warboss Talûn-Kar rallied his troops, but to no avail. The enemy general charged in on a mighty daemon steed, roaring a challenge for the warboss. Talûn-Kar barely got turned towards the enemy before the forces unraveled again, just as his head unraveled from his body.

Boss Prushnak thought quickly. He shouted to the night goblins: "Hey! Small-gits! Dem's Dwarfs in dem armours!"

The night goblins were confused, but their hatred towards the beard-heads was greater. They started advancing towards the enemy, yet again.

At the same time Prushnak led his orcs in a quick retreat, running head over heels southwards. He just hoped Shaman Gashgar noticed them. That git could prove useful.
